So the guitarist of my band has this great way of writing lyrics, he has a natural talent, an ability to unlock that part of your brain that you don’t use through the utilisation of certain words, it’s amazing. Anyway, he wrote this song called Phoenix, it’s a beautiful song that really hits home, no matter who you are or your situation in life and we rehearsed the song a while back in a practice session and I had panicked, dan had sent Sam the bass player a demo of the song so them pair were locked into what was happening right away, they had the rhythm guitar and bass line done before hand and the drummer James just started kicking the drum along with them, I looked around and had no idea what to play, I hadn’t had a pre thought out idea of a lead guitar part. I was playing my squire jag and I knew it had to be surfy in a way. That rich, trebley tone, I put my finger into a position that i had never played before out of pure luck. Hit the over drive pedal, blasted the reverb and kicked the delay pedal and out came this almighty sonic frequency that blew us all away. I claimed, and it is now renown that the pedal in the picture is “Phoenix in a pedal” because the song wouldn’t be that sounding song without it. We play this song live and every time I hear my guitar part, I look at my amp and the band and we get goosebumps and the song surprises the hell out of me every time we play is. That’s what being in a band is all about.
